Even if you cannot access your iPhone, you can still make a backup of the data from it by using iTunes. Here’s how to do it:

  1. Connect your iPhone to your PC with the USB cable
  2. Launch iTunes and click on the Device Summary Tab
  3. Scroll down to the Backup section and click on Back up Now .This will backup your device on your computer before you can restore it to original state . See the image below for instructions on how to do the backup on iTunes .  restore backup itunes ios 7
  4. Once that has been successfully completed you can place your iPhone into DFU mode :
    1. Press and hold the Home and Power buttons simultaneously for 10 seconds
    2. Release the Power button but continue to hold the Home button until a Restore message appears in iTunes (If you see the Apple logo on your iPhone screen you’ve gone too far and will need to try again) iphone 5s DFU mode
  5. Click on the Restore button on the pop-up message
  6. iTunes will restore your iPhone to the latest firmware
  7. Once this process is complete you can go back to Device summary and restore from your own backup to put all your personal files and data back on

If you were on iOS 6.1.2 or below and your iPhone was jailbroken, you will lose this, as you will be restored to a higher version of the firmware. To reset your passcode:

  1. Open your Settings app
  2. Tap on General
  3. Tap on Passcode Lock
  4. Tap to enable passcode and enter a new 4 digit code

  1. When you restore the backup it will not restore the forgotten password?

iTunes won’t allow the iPhone to sync if it has pass code on. It demands you to enter de code on the phone before you can access it on itunes

  2. So this means that anyone could take my iPhone, do a restore and get to my information? That doesn’t sound very secure to me..

  3. I forgot my icloud password, all the other passwords I’ve change or eliminated correctly, trying to sell my iphone 5, since I got the new 5s, but since I do not remember my icloud password it won’t let me reset the phone completely. what to do now stuck with this iphone 5 now.

  4. Thanks so much for sharing all with the awesome info! I am looking forward to checking out far more posts! gcccbedebdda
