iOS 7 is widely regarded as a huge improvement. It is the single most radical overhaul Apple has ever carried since iOS 7 was first introduced and, as well as ton of completely new features, all of the native apps have been upgraded as well. While this is all very nice, some of the older devices simply do not have the hardware necessary to cope with such changes. One problem that has been highlighted is typing speed.

On the iPhone 4 in particular it is taking anywhere between 5 and 15 seconds just for the keyboard to appear without the added trouble of a lag in typing speed. Many who suffer from this may be considering downgrading back to iOS 6+ to get rid of the issue. Unfortunately, Apple are no longer signing iOS 6.1.3 or 6.1.4, leaving no escape route.
Fix Typing Lag on iOS 7 :
However, there is a temporary fix you can try to overcome the keyboard lag, although we can only hope that Apple do something about fixing it permanently in a future update. Believe it or not, the problem is situated, not on the keyboard itself but within iCloud. Here’s how to fix it:
- Open Settings
- Tap on iCloud
- Login using your Apple ID
- Navigate to Documents and Data – you will find it located just above Find My iPhone – tap on it
- A window will appear with a toggle switch – tap to turn it OFF
Once this has been done you should find that keyboard speed improves considerably. Try it out by typing a message to someone or an email. If you need to you can always enable the Documents and Data setting again if needed. However, it has been noticed that if you open up Storage and Backup in iCloud the problem will reappear so you will need to disable the Documents and Data sync again.
Solution 2 for Typing Lag :
If this doesn’t fix the problem for you, try a reset:
- Open Settings
- Tap on General
- Tap on Reset
- Select Reset all Settings
Doing this will not affect any of your data or media files, however you will need to set up your settings again as they were before.
