iOS 7 Supported Devices – iPhone iPod and iPad

With a firm date ahead of us for the release of iOS 7, 18th September for those who don’t already know, it’s time to start taking a look at which devices will be supported by the firmware.  Apple decided not to make it compatible with the whole range of iOS devices. Although their reasoning for this decision hasn’t been made clear, in all likelihood it’s because the older devices haven’t got the hardware required to run the new features. Or, it could just be that they want you to fork over a pocketful of cash for a new one, of course. Whatever their reasoning, iOS 7 only supports the following devices .

Supported iOS 7 Devices :

iphone 5s iphone 4s iphone 5

  • iPhone 4
  • iPhone 4S
  • iPhone 5
  • iPhone 5S
  • iPhone 5C
  • iPad 2
  • iPad 3
  • iPad 4
  • iPad Mini
  • iPod Touch 5

And, of course, all the new devices will be supported – the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C and the iPad 5 and iPad Mini 2 when they are released.

It’s also worth noting that, out of the current devices, not all of them will be able to support all of the new features.  Below is a list of what MAY be available on each of the devices (this could be subject to change before the final version is released):

  • iPhone 4 – Square Camera, Video, Photo Filters, Swipe to Capture
  • iPhone 4S – All of the above plus Siri, Panorama
  • iPhone 5 As iPhone 4S plus Camera Filters, Airdrop
  • iPad 2 – Not known at the moment
  • iPad 3 – Photo Filters
  • iPad 4 – Photo filters, AirDrop, Siri
  • iPad Mini – Everything except for Camera Filters
  • iPod Touch – All Features

The iPhone 5S is the official upgrade to the iPhone 5 and, as such it looks pretty much the same. Some of the features included on the iPhone 5S:

  • A7 64-bit Processor
  • M7 Co-Processor iphone 5s a7 chip m7 chip
  • TouchID – Fingerprint scanner
  • Rear Camera – 8 megapixel, 1080p at 30fps and 720p at up to 120fps in conjunction with new features such as Slo-Mo and Burst

  • Wi-Fi 802.11a/b/g/n
  • Bluetooth 4.0
  • 4G LTE
  • Color options – Gold, Silver, Space Grey

The iPhone 5C, on the other hand, is supposed to be the budget model. However, everything points to it being an iPhone 5 in a cheaper, plastic, multi-colored disguise. Features include:

  • A6 Processor
  • Rear Camera – 8 megapixel, same features as iPhone 5
  • Storage Capacity – 16, 32GB
  • Wi-Fi, 4G LTE, Bluetooth 4.0
  • Color options – Pink, Blue, Yellow, White, Green

Both phones will be available in stores on September 20th. The iPhone 5C will be available for pre-order on 13th September but the iPhone 5S is not available for pre-order.
