iOS 10.3.1 Jailbreak

iOS 10.3.1 download [ext link] is now available to all those who want it. This is only a minor update but it does contain an important security fix, the usual enhancements and improvements and Apple’s new file system, the replacement for the existing HFS+ system. If you want more details about the features and instructions on how to download iOS 10.3.1, check out the linked article. There are going to be a certain percentage of users who won’t update just in case an iOS 10.3.1 jailbreak [ext link] is released. Right now, that isn’t looking likely for the near future but we can’t say what will happen later on down the line.

iOS 10 was starting to look as though there would be no jailbreak for it. In the last few years we have come to expect jailbreaks with virtually every release and, this time, it seemed like we were taking a step back and having to wait. However, iOS security researcher and developer Luca Todesco strayed from his normal path of steering clear of public jailbreaking and released Yalu Jailbreak for iOS 10.1. This was something of a surprise, albeit a welcome one but it wasn’t to be for all users.

Yalu jailbreak was a semi-untethered jailbreak that had to be installed each and every time the device was rebooted and it couldn’t be installed directly onto the device in the first place. Cydia Impactor needed to be used to side load and that required the use of a valid Apple ID, not something that everyone wanted to give. On top of that, anyone with an older 32-bit device and with any of the iPhone 7 models could not use the jailbreak as it was only compatible with certain devices.

While Todesco has updated Yalu to support later versions of iOS 10, it is not likely to receive support for iOS 10.3.1. This is because, as well as warning that jailbreaking is getting much harder to do, Todesco has said that he will no longer be doing any more security research work for the iOS and that means no more jailbreaks from him. While we should be grateful that he has got us this far, there are other jailbreak teams out there who may yet come up with a working jailbreak, including Taig, PP, and Pangu teams.

While we wait for news from one of them, make sure you save your SHSH blobs and don’t update unless you absolutely need to. Stay up to date with all the latest iOS 10.3.1 jailbreak news by following us on Facebook.
