How to Downgrade iPhone 5 iOS 7 beta to iOS 6.1.3

Monday 10th June was a big day for Apple fans the world over. WWDC 2013 kicked off with the unveiling of the long-awaited iOS 7 and, later in that evening, iOS 7 Beta 1 was released to the developers.  If you are a registered developer and you haven’t already done so, follow this guide for downloading iOS 7. If you are not a registered developer you can either join the program for just $99 per year or you can use this guide to download iOS 7 without UDID activation. However, you do this at your own risk.

If you prefer to wait, iOS 7 will be released to the public in Q3, alongside the new lineup of iPhones and iPads that are also due to be launched.  If you have upgraded to iOS 7 and want to go back to 6.1.3 here’s how:

  1. Download iOS 6.1.3 ipsw firmware (links below)
  2. Using the USB/lightning cable, connect your iPhone to your PC
  3. On your desktop open iTunes
  4. Press down on the SHIFT  key (Mac users press OPTION)  and click on Restore  in iTunes simultaneously restore-iphone-5-550x334
  5. A box will appear on the screen , select the iOS 6.1.3 firmware itunes restore ipsw
  6. iTunes will now proceed to downgrade your iPhone to 6.1.3

It’s as simple as that. You must keep in mind that this can only be done on pre A5 chip devices, namely the iPhones 4, 3GS and the iPod 4th Gen. And, if you want to go ahead and jailbreak your device once you have downgraded it to 6.1.3 you can. Using Redsn0w or Sn0wbreeze you will be able to carry out a tethered jailbreak only.  Unfortunately, the newer devices will be stuck on iOS 7 as they cannot be downgraded.
