Reduce the Motion and Parallax Effect :

iOS 7 comes full of new features and one of these is the motion and parallax effect on wallpapers. If you have the brand new iPhone 5S with its built-in motion processor this won’t be an issue but for those on any other model this is going to use up system resources. To turn it off or reduce it:

  1. Open Settings
  2. Tap on General
  3. Tap on Accessibility
  4. Tap on Reduce Motion reduce motion ios 7
  5. Here you can tap on a switch which will disable the parallax effect

Don’t Use the Dynamic Wallpapers

While these are a nice addition to iOS 7 they will use up your battery life fast. This is because they are moving or live and are continually using up valuable resources. To disable:

  1. Open Settings
  2. Tap on Wallpaper and Brightness ios 7 wallpaper iphone 5s
  3. Tap on Choose Wallpaper
  4. Tap on Stills choose wallpaper ios 7
  5. Now choose any picture that is not dynamic, i.e. a still picture, to set as your wallpaper

Disable Background Refresh

While this is a handy feature, allowing your apps to update automatically in the background, it will drink battery juice quicker than you can keep up with it. If you don’t want your content or apps refreshing automatically or if you prefer to update your apps when you want to, disable the feature:

  1. Open Settings
  2. Open General
  3. Tap Background App Refresh background app refresh
  4. Tap to disable

To Turn off automatic downloading:

  1. Open Settings
  2. Open App Store
  3. Tap Automatic Downloads itunes and app store updates
  4. Tap on Updates and tap to disable

Change Location Services

No matter which version of iOS you use, Location Services will drain the battery quickly. If you do not need to use it all of the time, i.e. on apps such as Facebook or Twitter, you should disable it:

  1. Open Settings
  2. Open Privacy
  3. Open Location Services
  4. Go down the list and disable all services you  don’t need it on

Frequent Locations is another service that can have a serious impact on battery life because it is continually working to get your location so it can tell you how long it will take you to get somewhere. To disable it:

  1. Open Settings
  2. Open Privacy
  3. Open Location Services
  4. Open System Servicesios 7 system services
  5. Open Frequent Locations and tap to turn it off

Choose Your Background Apps Carefully

While it may be handy to have some apps running in the background you probably don’t need everything. Things like Mapping, Direction and Fitness related apps or GPS for example perhaps don’t need to be running permanently.

  1. Launch Multitasking by double tapping the Home Button
  2. Tap and hold the screen card for the app you want to close and swipe upwards multi tasking ios 7
  3. If you want you can use 3 fingers and close down 3 apps in the same way.

Alter the Brightness of your Screen

Having a bright screen takes a toll on your battery so turn it down or set it to Automatic – this will set your brightness depending on the ambient light:

  1. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen to launch Control Center
  2. Move the Slider for brightness to the desired position ( or set it to Auto from Wallpapers and Brightness under Settings ) ios 7 wallpaper iphone 5s

Disable AirDrop

While AirDrop is a nice feature, making it easy to transfer files and other content, if you are not using it all the time you might want to turn it off:

  1. Swipe up to access the Control Center
  2. Tap on the AirDrop icon and tap to disable it airdrop ios 7

More Battery Low Fixes:

There are plenty of other things you can do to save your battery life; most of these settings can be changed via the Control Center:

  1. Switch off Bluetooth and Wi-Fi when you are not using them
  2. Switch off 4G LTE
  3. Change your Auto-Lock setting to 1 Minute and make sure you lock your device when you are not using it
  4. Turn off the click sounds of the keyboard
  5. If you are listening to music or watching a video use headphones instead of the speakers
  6. Change your mail settings to Fetch instead of Push
  7. Try restarting your device, this will shut down everything and you can start afresh
  8. If none of these works, try restoring or reinstalling iOS 7
