200 Million iOS Users Downloaded iOS 7 Firmware

Apple has plenty to celebrate right now. Although it has taken a bit longer that originally thought to get the information, the official sales figures for the iPhone 5S and 5C are now in.  During launch weekend, the Cupertino Company was keeping their fingers crossed that the figures would on a par with the iPhone 5 from last year. That was a record-breaking launch with more than 5 million handsets sold in the first 3 days. This year? A combined number of both handsets have been sold, totaling 9 million, almost doubling last year’s figures.

Not only is Apple jumping up and down for joy, so are Wall Street investors. The sales figures have given AAPL stock prices a boost, moving them closer to the $500 pre-trading mark.  And, as well as this impressive figure, Apple tell us that more than 200 million users have upgraded to iOS 7 since it was released on 18th September.

Apple was hoping to sell around 13 million units in the first 10 days after launch and it looks as though this figure will be more than met. At the announcement on 10th September, Tim Cook also said that October would mark the sale of their 700 millionth iOS device.

There is no news on when the iPhone 5S and 5C will launch in other markets at the moment. However, with the press releases buzzing with statements such as “record breaking” and “the fastest software upgrade in history” anything now will be a bonus rather than a requisite.

A quote from CEO, Tim Cook:

This is our best iPhone launch yet―more than nine million new iPhones sold―a new record for first weekend sales.

The demand for the new iPhones has been incredible, and while we’ve sold out of our initial supply of iPhone 5s, stores continue to receive new iPhone shipments regularly.

We appreciate everyone’s patience and are working hard to build enough new iPhones for everyone.

Tim Cook has been busy since launch. He has visited the Palo Alto store to meet with customers and has also been tweeting that “seeing so many happy customers reminds us of why we do what we do”.

At the moment, both iPhone models [5C and 5S] can be purchased in the following Countries:

  • USA
  • UK
  • Hong Kong
  • China
  • France
  • Germany
  • Canada
  • Australia
  • Japan
  • Puerto Rico
  • Singapore

Apple has acknowledged that demand far outweighed supply of the iPhone 5S with many stores running out within 72 hours. Online orders are expected to start shipping sometime in the next few weeks, although the ETA has gone from 7-10 days to sometime next month.

And, one last snippet : iTunes Radio, a brand new feature to iOS 7, has received more than 11 million unique visitors since 18th September and the song that has been listened to the most is “Hold On, We’re Going Home” by Drake.

  1. Eat that apple haters. I mean why hate anyway. Their products are excellent quality craftsmanship. I still don’t like the idea of how iOS controls everything letting users not customize anything but hey that’s why it’s a perfect OS when it comes to less bugs and errors when compared to android or windows phone. I have noticed most apple haters are ones who can’t afford it whether its an iPhone or laptop or iPad etc.
